Windows Internet Explorer 8

IE 8

Making your web even better…Faster, Safer, Easier.

Key Features:

Following are key features of Windows Internet Explorer 8:

Accelerators

The new Accelerators in Internet Explorer 8 help you quickly perform your everyday browsing tasks without navigating to other websites to get things done. Simply highlight text from any webpage, and then click on the blue Accelerator icon that appears above your selection to obtain driving directions, translate and define words, email content to others, search with ease, and more.

Search suggestions

Have you ever forgotten the complete title of a book you were hoping to find or the first name of the actor in last night’s movie? The new search capabilities in Internet Explorer 8 will offer relevant suggestions as you type words into the search box to help save time.

Visual suggestions

Internet Explorer 8 is partnering with top search providers like Bing, Wikipedia, Yahoo!, Amazon, and more to deliver visual suggestions that provide you with immediate answers.

Better Find On Page

Internet Explorer 8 includes a completely redesigned Find On Page toolbar, which is activated by pressing Ctrl-F or choosing Find On Page from the Edit menu or Search box drop-down. Press the Alt key if you do not see the Edit menu option.

Smarter Address Bar

Can’t remember the full address of a new website you visited last week? Type a few characters in the new Address Bar and Internet Explorer 8 will automatically recall sites you’ve already visited based on your entry.

Web Slices

Using Web Slices, you can keep up with frequently updated sites directly from the new Favorites Bar. If a Web Slice is available on a page, a green Web Slices icon will appear in the Command Bar. Click on this icon to easily subscribe and add the Web Slices to the Favorites Bar so you can keep track of that “slice” of the web.

Compatibility View

Internet Explorer 8 is a new release and some websites may not yet be ready for the new browser. Click the Compatibility View toolbar button to display the website as viewed in Internet Explorer 7, which will correct display problems like misaligned text, images, or text boxes.

Enhanced tabbed browsing

Internet Explorer 8 introduces Tab Groups, which make tabbed browsing easier. When one tab is opened from another, the new tab is placed next to the originating tab and color coded, so that you can quickly see which tabs have related content. If you close a tab that’s part of a group, another tab from the same group is displayed, enabling you to remain within the context of the current task rather than suddenly looking at an unrelated site. Improved favorites and history management

Stay safer online

Internet Explorer 8 helps protect you from today’s threats, including malware and phishing, as well as emerging threats that can compromise your computer without your knowledge

SmartScreen

The SmartScreen filter is a set of technologies designed to help protect users from evolving web and social engineering threats. If the SmartScreen filter detects a malicious website, Internet Explorer 8 will block the entire site

InPrivate Browsing

You can start InPrivate Browsing by opening a new tab and selecting Browse with InPrivate or selecting it from the Safety button on the top right corner of the browser window. Once you complete this action, Internet Explorer 8 will launch a new browser session that won’t record any information, including searches or webpage visits. To end your InPrivate Browsing session, simply close the browser window.

Review:

My first impression about IE8 was that it is much like IE7. But when I explored some of its menu and options I came to know that it has some very easy to use and useful features. IE8 has also been tweaked for security and includes a so-called “porn mode,” new anti-malware protection, and better ways to protect your privacy.

IE8 adds some unique, convenient new ways to access Web resources, with Accelerators and WebSlices. Its color-coded tab system, improved address bar, and enhanced privacy protections are also noteworthy. Many Web pages out there are optimized for IE7 at the moment, and some reviewers have had problems rendering pages in IE8. That’s where IE8′s compatibility view comes in. IE8 will automatically tell Web pages that you’re using IE7 if the site won’t render properly in IE8. The browser will also remember every page it needs to use compatibility view. You can also switch on compatibility view manually or turn it off completely.

Conclusion:

IE8 makes browsing and searching much easier, has productivity-boosting features, is safer, and provides an overall superior experience. If you’re fan of add-ons and customized browser, Mozilla Firefox is definitely the champion in this field but for core browsing IE8 has upper hand due to its very cool new features.
