Google will begin to sell e-books in summer
The American search engine Google will begin to sell e-books in late June or July competing with Amazon, Apple and Barnes & Noble, as published in the Tuesday Edition of the Wall Street Journal, citing a representative of the company.
According to the Rotary, Chris Palma, Google, strategy director made public calendar of Google plans in an event sponsored by the Book Industry Study Group in New York. Google said that its new service called Google Editions will enable users to purchase digital copies of e-books to discover their book search service.
Retailers would also be able to sell Google Editions on their own websites to be part of the benefit. Google has not yet provided the prices of the books or the exact date of the service. The Kings of the sector are Amazon and new comer Apple with the iBookstore. This new project is independent of Google Books, Google’s controversial plan to scan millions of titles and then create a vast online library. Google’s entry on the market of e-books will definitely boost this sector which is expected to grow exponentially in the coming years.
