If someone could enter your computer to browse your hard disc drive and you are concerned about your privacy. Putting a password to login can be a problem, especially when you have to share your PC or laptop with other family members or co-workers. That is why there are program that allow you to protect the privacy, blocking or restricting access to certain folders. One of these programs is FolderMage Pro.

FolderMage Pro is designed to keep our files under our control and make it sure that someone doesn’t access your confidential files without your consent. We can hide an individual file, a group of files, and a complete directory. Sometimes you may want to share a document with others but you don’t want to allow modifying the file. So, FolderMage Pro allows you to use an option “Read Only”, that doesn’t allow others to change file attributes.

Something that I discovered, while playing with viruses and malwares on my test computer, is that hiding a file with FolderMage Pro also makes it invisible to the viruses. And if marked as Read Only, it doesn’t allow infection and file corruption. I also tried entire folders as invisible including the Windows folder and here I had mixed results. Sometimes all went very well but inexplicably on other occasions the OS hung. So I left aside that test. Then I tried FolderMage Pro by checking all drives as read-only. Computer and OS went well but certain programs caused problems because they needed to make changes to some specific files of the software, this is the case of Office 2007.
