If you are a hardcore video games player, possibly you must know all models of major manufacturers. Moreover, it is more likely that you know only one of these tags, because the vast majority of players who decides to use a custom PC start to take taste in particular brand and repulsion by another.
After the fight between Firefox and Opera, now we want to propose a fight between fans of NVIDIA (the green side of strength) and fans of ATI (the red side of force). Of course, our articles are of sole intention to create healthy discussions so that everyone can see the positive and negative aspects in both manufacturers.
Knowing the Wrestlers
One side is NVIDIA, with all its fame and glory of manufacturer that sells video cards in the world. Always with a focus on green, NVIDIA maintains the largest seller, together with the support of its legion of fans.
On the other side is ATI, the company that grew long after buying AMD. Wearing always red, ATI offers great technologies and is growing. Thanks to the speed with which announces new graphics cards.
Round 1: DirectX 11 Support
In fierce competition dispute by firstly as the industry’s largest manufacturer, both brands constantly investing in technology to create new cards to come out on top. Last year, Microsoft announced the release of DirectX 11, factor that made the graphics chips manufacturers in a process of creating compatible hardware.
The truth is that ATI launched their first DirectX 11 compatible card last year ahead of NVIDIA. Demonstrating superiority, ATI is the largest seller during the period in which reigned with DirectX 11. The NVIDIA until announced new models, it took approximately six months to put an item with the same technology on the market. When NVIDIA launched their first model, ATI had 8 models with support for DirectX 11.
Round 2: Major Technologies
Of course, when it comes to graphics quality, DirectX 11 is not only considered because it does not provide all the details in a game. Thus the Ageia, acquired by NVIDIA has a great technology PhysX — very important to give more realism physical particles.
NVIDIA took advantage of his fortune to buy PhysX technology and by inserting specific settings in their chips. And of course that ATI has not had much to do, since the technology is proprietary of NVIDIA and many developers use the PhysX in their games.
Round 3: Prices
ATI has always been a manufacturer who keeps prices low. Despite launching products with rich technology, ATI has managed to maintain prices at a reasonable range. So players can acquire a high performance Radeon graphics card at an affordable price.
NVIDIA also abused his fame and always remained higher prices, since users always use the argument “NVIDIA is better, worth the price”. However, lately the story might have changed figure, because while ATI sold chips with DirectX 11 by a particular value, NVIDIA insisted on maintaining high prices of products with DirectX 10.
Certainly the launch of the new GeForce helped bring down the prices, but the products with support for DirectX 11 arrived again with a high price. Considering only the GeForce GTX 480 model, there is a difference of $100 against the equivalent ATI Radeon HD 5870.
Round 4: Quality
Speaking about innovation, there is no doubt about fantastic 3D Vision technology that puts NVIDIA to remain at the top with their chips. Many games are adhering to 3D and with this the green side of the force has sold many kits.
In this respect, there are no official announcements of launching 3D technology by AMD. However, the manufacturer of the red side of the force has its tricks and attempts to conquer players with other technologies such as Eyefinity, which enables a much larger field of vision of the games. Of course, it only belongs to players with great purchasing power, because in addition to having to buy a very powerful computer, the player must have multiple monitors (three or more).
Round 5: More Powerful Card
ATI has managed to take forward and create more powerful cards today. AMD ATI was witty and invested in creating chips with DirectX 11 support well before the NVIDIA.
ATI Radeon HD 5970 is the only card that supports DirectX 11 and two cores. In all tests performed over the Internet, AMD ATI is more powerful manufacturer station. Of course the results of the analyses on the Internet show that a dual-core AMD ATI is better than a single core of NVIDIA. However, soon the green side of the force shall launch a graphics card with two cores.
Round 6: Assemblers
If you already purchased a video card someday, should have noticed that there is a large amount of assemblers. Among so many are XFX, ASUS, MSI, Zogis, Palit, and many others. The assemblers don’t influence heavily in Brig between manufacturers, but help the user to define which model they wish to buy, since forming plates with different amounts of memory, configurations and games.
Formerly the NVIDIA had the major brands only in their favor. Among them was the XFX, which has always been known only by working with the GeForce brand. This allegation has always been a positive point in favor of consumers who love NVIDIA, precisely because the ATI had lesser known brands, such as JV logic and Sapphire.
Fortunately most big brands were forced to work with ATI, precisely because of the pioneering graphics chips launching with support for DirectX 11. Currently the XFX, ASUS, MSI and so many others already produce plaques with ATI Radeon, factor that benefits all players.
Round 7: Sponsored Games
Leveraging the huge amount of video games sales, the video card manufacturers are sponsoring games so that their names are always available there. NVIDIA is a clear example of a company that uses absurdly marketing in their favor. Users have noticed that sometimes the NVIDIA logo appears even before start of game. This happens usually in games that you can use the 3DVision or the PhysX.
On the other hand, AMD ATI does not invest a lot in this respect.
Final Round: Your Choice
Finally, now that we have the main positive and negative points of each manufacturer, we hope that you set the big winner of this fight. Who’s the best? NVIDIA or ATI?

Thrilling article. I admire much competition from both companies. Competition is good that benefits their clients. In my opinion, ATI is slightly better than NVIDIA.

Both are excellent. I have a GeForce FX 5500 with 256 MB and it is working flawlessly. But I’d like to have ATI Radeon HD 5870 (who don’t want hehe)

I prefer NVIDIA and advice to everybody who want to buy something good with reasonable price, get NVIDIA.

First i had an ati graphic card, i don’t remember the model, it fried after 2 years, never tried to overclock it. I also had an nvidia geforce fx5200 128mb that fried after 5 years, but this one i overclocked it to see the performance increase.

I’ve used both ATI and NVidia over the last 10+ years. Both ATI and NVidia cards of nearly the same generation seem to be close enough in performance as not to be an issue with me! However what is an issue is that the ATI cards have drivers that can’t be depended on. My current ATI-HD4870x2 won’t run correctly at all with the 10.5-10.8 drivers. In the past I’ve also had many driver issues with the many other ATI cards I’ve owned. I’ve never had any issues at with any of the NVidia cards or drivers, even when I installed drivers that were released long before the new hardware was created, the cards worked! Plus the Physics in the NVIdia cards really works and while it may not always improve frame rates, the Physics processors always reduce the load on the main CPU!
