5 Reasons to stop using Facebook

Privacy Add comments

Dan Yoder has published a list of top ten reasons to leave Facebook. We select five of them:

Unilateral Terms of Service

Facebook retains all right about everything that is posted on the network. And as if that wasn’t enough, they reserve the right to terminate your account, if you do not update your data, by providing accurate information.

War against Privacy

Based on recent announcements of Mark Zuckerberg, Dan Yoder says that Facebook doesn’t respect the privacy of the contents of their users. Zuckerberg said, among other things that the social standard is now that the site doesn’t just want to get as much information as possible about you, but also disseminate them without criterion.

All Private Data is shared via Applications

When you install an application on Facebook, all your data including private ones is shared. Developers of applications have access to your data and what they do with that nobody knows. For Yoder, the only way to be free is not installing any application on your account.

Security Flaws

According to Dan Yoder, Facebook is not competent enough to prevent the abduction of information of its users, which puts at risk the private information that you provide on website. The “Like” button, according to the critic, makes life easier for spammers to gain access to your updates and send spam to your account.

Difficulty to Delete Your Account

If you decide to delete your Facebook account, it is good to prepare, because this is confusing and even annoying. In Account Settings, you’re given an option to deactivate your account, which is not the same thing as deleting it. Deactivation means, when you log back in, your account is activated again as nothing ever happened to it. To really delete your account you need to access a link hidden in the help section.
