Using Windows 7 Repair Install
One method of altering the boot manager so that both Windows 7 and Windows XP are displayed and kicking right is to use the Windows 7 installation DVD to enter the Windows 7 repair function. Place your Windows 7 DVD into your computer’s DVD and reboot the machine. Boot your computer from DVD as though you were installing the operative group again.
When the installation begins, select your language and then click “Next”. Select “Repair Your Computer” option.
Then select “Startup Repair” option on the next screen.
Follow the on-screen instructions to re-install the Windows 7 boot manager. Since Windows 7 can identify Windows XP automatically, your Windows XP installation will be added automatically to the Windows 7 boot manager.
Using Third-Party Software
Another option that will let you to add Windows 7 to the Windows XP boot manager is to use a third-party BCD software. There are various BCD and boot loader programs which can be run from within Windows XP or Windows 7. Download and install the program, run it and make the boot options for any operating system that you hold installed and which doesn’t currently happen in your boot listing.
After you are dead sure that all your operating systems are been entered into the BCD software, search the option to manage boot loader and click “Reinstall Windows 7 Bootloader.” Once this option has been elected, you only need to click on the button to rewrite MBR. This action overwrites the current MBR with the new one and also adds Windows 7 to the Windows XP boot manager.
