Microsoft has announced that Ray Ozzie will retire after five years in the position of Chief Software Architect. This was the position held by Bill Gates and Ray Ozzie assumed by as soon as the founder of Microsoft decided that it is the time to start his retirement.

In an e-mail sent to the developers at Microsoft, CEO Steve Ballmer announced the departure of Ray Ozzie while advised that he will remain in the company for an indefinite period of time to affect the transition teams and projects that were in progress during his tenure. Additionally, Ballmer revealed that they aren’t looking for a replacement for the post of Ray Ozzie. Before retirement, Ray will be involved with Microsoft’s entertainment area, in which the company has recently made investments.

Among some other products, Ray Ozzie has helped in building the Windows Azure, assisting the company’s entry in “Cloud Computing”. Although there are questions about the performance and impact of Ray, its objectives were met during his work in the company. Ray Ozzie was the Lotus Notes Developer and also worked in projects of Lotus Symphony. He was one of the executives who left recently Microsoft after the retirement of Bill Gates. Beyond this, Robbie Bach, President of entertainment unit and consumer equipment, also announced that he will also leave the post in 2010.
