Miranda is an open source client that allows access to different IM networks such as AIM, Facebook, Gadu-Gadu, IAX, ICQ, IRC, Jabber, MSN, Netsend, Tlen, Yahoo and more. Maybe lacks some advanced features, but you can rest assured that the essential IM exchange is fully supported.
Best of all, the computer resources does not overburden. You don’t need to open multiple programs at the same time. Still being so light, compact Miranda interface lets you perform much of the typical operations of chat, send files, view conversation history or profiles. From the Miranda accounts menu you can manage each of them. On the other hand, you have complete options that customize the behavior of Miranda, from the view of avatars to the keyboard shortcuts panel. The icons in the window can be modified, as well as menus, sounds and notifications.
Another strong point of Miranda IM is speed. Because it is very lightweight, executes all actions in no time. The lack of voice and video chat are distinct disadvantages, but most functions you need to chat are present.
