Seek Bar
OpenOffice.org now has a new search bar, located on the program toolbar. The system has been enhanced and is more accessible by the user to enter the term and then browse through the results using the arrows that sit beside the search field.
Most Comprehensive Dictionary
Finally the OpenOffice.org has a litter better dictionary system, now with a submenu whereby you get suggestions of synonymous words. This feature is already available in Microsoft Office suite and is of great help.
Writer
The Writer is word processor of this package. You can produce simple or more complex texts, diagrams, tables, indexes, cross-references, numbering and other resources. Use the tool Styles and Formatting to standardize what’s necessary. Writer also has real-time spell checker, word completion, tools for creating indexes, summaries, notes and other, possibility of sending documents by e-mail and tool for converting documents into web pages. Writer is powerful enough to run typical desktop publishing tasks, such as creation of newsletters with multiple columns and brochures, only limit is your imagination.
Calc
Calc has all the features you need to calculate, analyze, summarize and present your data in numerical reports or impressive graphics. An integrated help system facilitates the insertion of complex formulas. Sophisticated tools to aid decision-making are just a few clicks away. Import external data by using the PivotTable. After ordering them, filter them, produce sub totals and do a statistical analysis.
Impress
Impress is the tool for creating multimedia presentations. You can add pictures, special effects, animations, drawings and slides with different layouts in the same presentation as well as be viewed in different ways. You can also apply various animations and transition effects between them. For publishing a presentation on the internet, simply export the file to PDF or SWF.
Draw
Draw is the tool for creation of graphs, diagrams and other visuals that enrich any document. Draw allows manipulation of objects, enabling rotation in two or three dimensions, organize everything, grouping, defining the order of objects, sending them forward or backward etc. Draw supports most popular formats such as BMP, GIF, JPEG, PNG, TIFF and WMF.
Base
Base allows you to manipulate databases seamlessly. It create and modify tables, forms, queries, and reports, either using a previously existing database in your organization, either with the HSQL, embedded in the Base.
Math
Math formula editor is a powerful, yet easy to use. With it you can create from simple formulas to the more complex equations. Extremely useful for scientific work or school. Any component of OpenOffice.org that you use is compatible with Math. For example, within the Writer, an equation is treated as an object within the text.
