Instantbird Messenger with support for Windows Live Messenger, Facebook, Twitter and Gtalk
Instantbird is a free instant messaging client that allows you to chat with your friends from Windows Live Messenger (MSN), Yahoo, GTalk, Twitter and Facebook including others.
InstantBird is multiplatform (Windows, Mac and Linux) and officially it supports AIM, Facebook chat, Google Talk, Twitter, Windows Live Messenger (MSN), Jabber and Yahoo! Messenger, but you can add several other platforms such as ICQ, IRC and MySpaceIM through extensions. There are hundreds of available extensions, which offer a wide range of features, including usability improvements, themes and plug-ins to watch videos and open documents directly from Instantbird.
When you run Instantbird for the first time, it asks you to set up an account. Select a platform from the list and enter your user name, password and nickname. Once an account has been added, you’ll see the account management window, where you can add new accounts. When you add your Twitter account, a new window opens, where you can see the latest tweets from people you follow and you can also publish new tweets.
One of the niftiest features of Instantbird is grouped into conversations, similar to the Firefox tabs. You can drag them to reorder or move a conversation to a new window. This feature helps you to have an uncluttered screen, even when you’re chatting with several people at the same time. Another cool feature of Instantbird is merging contacts. If you have a friend on multiple platforms, you can combine all his details in one place to organize your buddy list.
Instantbird provides native support for Windows 7 jump lists, which lets you swap your status from the taskbar, without requiring you to open Instantbird. You can also change the default theme, disable the conversation logs and sound notifications, set the color, font size and type, adjust proxy settings and much more.
