Android occupies almost 50% of the world smartphone market
The world of smartphones is phenomenal and the fight continues between just two; on the one hand Google with Android and other Apple with iOS. Company Canalys estimates, the market of smartphones grew in all regions of the world. Overall, the market of smartphones grew about 73%, with more than 107 million units sold in the second quarter of this year.
Equipment sold with Android corresponds to more than 50 million, which equates to approximately half of the world market. The study conducted by Canalys reveals that of the 56 countries analyzed, Android is the most widely used platform in 35 of them, being the Asia Pacific region that holds the largest sales market, with 39.8 million units sold, contrasting with the 35 million units sold across Europe.
Android currently occupies the first position in the ranking at the level of sales, having had the largest growth since the fourth quarter of 2010 (about 379%). According to the study, such growth due to the fantastic results at the level of performance achieved by the Android platform on devices of several brands, including Samsung, HTC, LG, Motorola, Huawei, etc.
Apple iOS platform gets the second position of the sales ranking (with only 19% of the market sales) but do not forget that this platform is for only Apple products. The Canalys estimates that in the second quarter Apple has sold approximately 20.3 million iPhone units, putting it ahead of Nokia and thereby led the ranking of the company that manufactures smartphones worldwide. According to Chris Jone, analyst at Canalys, this position will be further strengthened with the arrival of iPhone 5. Nokia also was overtaken by Samsung.
RIM with the Blackberry platform continues to lose ground to competitors and the presence of Microsoft constitutes only 1% in the global market. Android is the winner of the second quarter of 2011, Gartner estimates that the Symbian platform would be number one in 2012, already achieving excellent results from the 4th quarter of 2010.
