If your desktop is always cluttered with lot of files and opened programs, a good way to organize it can be the use of virtual desktops. nSpaces is a free program that allows you to create multiple virtual desktops on your computer to organize your workspace.

With nSpaces you can open different programs on different desktops, choose a color and a different wallpaper for each virtual desktop, customize the shortcuts on the taskbar for each desktop, naming each virtual desktop, create shortcut keys to switch virtual desktop quickly and much more. nSpaces comes preconfigured with four desktops, one default desktop and three virtual desktops. But, you can increase and decrease the amount of virtual desktops according to your needs.

To switch between desktops, you can click the nSpaces icon in the system tray and choose the option”Switcher” or press Win + S to open the window of an exchange of desktops or even use one of the pre-configured shortcut keys to quickly switch between the virtual desktops. It keeps all open items in a separate desktop. The only elements common to all desktops are the original desktop items. In addition, nSpaces remembers what programs you have assigned to each virtual desktop, so they are always open on the desktop.

To configure the preferences of nSpace and virtual desktops, right click the nSpaces icon in the system tray, which appears on all virtual desktops and select the option nSpaces. The options “Row” and “Colums” let you increase and decrease the number of desktops. The other options are for customization of desktops. You can give a name to each desktop, choose wallpaper or a background color, the list of programs and define a shortcut key to open each desktop. Under “Settings”, you can enable nSpaces to start with the system and set a password for protecting desktops against unauthorized access.
